Johan Strydom, a former actuary turned entrepreneur, established the esteemed Prime Wagyu herd. He divides his time between his residence in Gordons Bay and his farm located in the Free State. He envisions a bright future where farmers can directly offer superior produce to consumers, from farm to fork. With a firm belief in the exceptional taste and superior nutritional value of such produce, he aims to unlock its full potential for the public to enjoy. He is convinced that consumers increasingly seek meat that is devoid of hormone growth stimulants and routine antibiotics, especially when it comes to nourishing their children. He is determined to meet this demand and provide the public with meat that adheres to these stringent standards. Purchasing directly from the farmer instills confidence in parents that they are indeed getting exactly what they intend to buy. By eliminating intermediaries and obtaining produce straight from the source, parents can trust the authenticity and quality of the product with certainty. Johan values active engagement with his local community, which is why he established the Prime Wagyu Taste Club. This exclusive club provides individuals in his vicinity, specifically the Helderberg and Winelands areas, with the unique opportunity to savor and explore the diverse flavors and textures that Wagyu has to offer. WHY WE WAGYU

I grew up in South Africa and lived most of my adult life in the UK.  I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly of capitalism and I try to focus on its positive side.  Especially how it motivates and rewards people to better themselves, develop skills and take risks. I’ve experienced the sacrifices of years of studying,  the politics of corporate life and the turbulence and roller coaster rides of being an entrepreneur.  It’s quite a journey and on this journey you see and meet the people making the sacrifices, the ones who keep on learning and educating themselves, who keep on picking themselves up when they fall and keep on going… knowing it’s easier to give up and accept the status quo. They are the people who are motivated to aspire for a better life for themselves, for their families and overall they create a better life for everyone through the creation of products, services and most importantly jobs.  These are the people I call my customers.  These are the people who deserve to be treated.  The people who deserve to take a break and be unapologetic in rewarding themselves with some of the luxuries in life… I salute you… you are my inspiration to proudly craft the eating experiences you deserve. You are extraordinary and you deserve better than ordinary.
